Myopia Control

Myopia is the medical term for being near-sighted (aka needing glasses for distance vision). In the past few decades, being near-sighted has become alarmingly more common and more severe. While this may not seem like a major concern, the issue is that the higher the prescription becomes, the higher your risk for many significant ocular diseases. For example, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal holes, retinal tears, and retinal detachments all become more common the higher your prescription becomes. For this reason, it has become an important issue with regard to public health. If your child’s prescription has continued to increase year after year, myopia control is something to consider moving forward.

There are a few different methods have been studied for slowing the worsening of myopia, and we do our best to select the one that best fits your child’s individual needs. These methods include a daily eye drop, specialty soft lenses, or orthokeratology (a specialty hard lens that is only worn while you are sleeping). As an important side note, we are proud to be one of a select few offices in orange county to offer the only daily disposable contact lens for available for myopia control!

If you would like to know if your child is a candidate for myopia control treatment, please give us a call for more information and to schedule a consultation with one of our doctors.
